At Riverway, we put our primary reliance on the Bible. It is a unique collection of books that document the history of God's people; the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus; and the Holy Spirit’s work in the early church. We consider the writings of the Scriptures to be sacred and consider them a foundation for our faith.

In our spiritual journey, we study the Bible within groups and community. Even when we study it alone, we’re guided and corrected through the God-inspired words written on those pages. We interpret individual texts in light of their place in the Bible as a whole. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we try to discern both the original intention of the text and its meaning for our own faith and life.

The Bible describes the church as the body of Jesus in our world today, with Jesus as the head of the church. The church is a group of people – not a building – who work together to serve, love, and care for others as Jesus did!

Scripture teaches that God created everything we can see (and even everything we can’t see) out of nothing. Although it is impossible for the human mind to comprehend, the Bible teaches that God is one, yet has existed since before the beginning of time as three distinct and equal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is God’s Son and an equal of the Father. He has existed since before the beginning of time, yet lived on earth during the 1st century A.D. Throughout His earthly life, He was completely God and completely human at the same time. After living a perfect, sinless life, Jesus offered Himself as the final sacrifice for every human being by dying on a Roman cross. After three days in the grave, He defeated sin and death by rising from the grave. He then ascended to Heaven and will return one day to reign as King. Jesus is the exact imprint of the character of God – the visible image of the invisible God.

The Holy Spirit is a full and equal part of the Trinity. He works in the world to make all people understand their need for Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives inside of every follower of Jesus from the moment they decide to follow Him. The Spirit is our power source for life, ministry, and spiritual growth. 

Our disobedient nature has eternally separated us from God. No matter how hard we try, we can never earn our way back into God’s presence. Our only hope is to put our trust in Jesus and ask Him to forgive our sins and to be the leader of our lives. When you make that decision, you are adopted into God’s family as His son or daughter! God has always valued relationship over religion.

God made you to exist forever. Heaven is a perfect place, and since none of us are perfect, we are all headed for an eternity of separation from God. That is why God sent Jesus: to open our eyes to His incredible love for us and our need for Him. What you decide about Jesus in this life will determine if you remain a part of His family for eternity.

God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth, the dead will be raised and God will judge all men in righteousness. All things will be woven together by God and last forever. That is the hope of those who believe!
